Tie Dramatic Match - India and England

Bookmark and Share

India and England tied one of the greatest matches in ICC Cricket World Cup history as both sides recorded 338 on Sunday. The match, which saw the highest match aggregate in the tournament's history, saw England score 13 runs off the final over to finish on 338-8 to tie the game.

Earlier Sachin Tendulkar's 98th international century saw him make a masterful 120 as India hit England's bowlers to every corner off the packed ground in Bengaluru as it smashed 338 all out. Tendulkar received excellent support from Yuvraj Singh who hit 58 and Gautam Gambhir who made 51.

Jimmy Anderson conceded the most runs in World Cup history by an English bowler as he took 1-91, but England was left to thank Tim Bresnan for his best ever ODI performance. The Yorkshire paceman took his first five-wicket haul, capturing three wickets in four balls during the 49th over, as he achieved figures of 5-48.

In reply, Andrew Strauss and Kevin Pietersen gave England a lively start, but Pietersen was very unlucky to fall to a caught and bowled chance by Munaf Patel for 31. Strauss and Trott then steadied things for England before Chawla trapped Trott in front for 16 to leave England 111-2. Strauss and Bell then combined for a record-breaking third wicket partnership with the England skipper registering 158, becoming the sixth English player to pass 4,000 ODI runs in the process. Strauss (158) brought up his hundred off just 99 balls and combined with Bell, who made 69, to add 170 for the third wicket, but they fell off consecutive deliveries to Zaheer Khan in the 43rd over to completely change the game.

Collingwood and Prior followed soon after, before Yardy and Bresnan both made useful contributions before getting out. Swann and Shahzad then combined to hit 13 runs off the last over, Shahzad dramatically hitting his first ball for six, but Swann could only manage one off the final ball to tie the match.
