One of the world’s most anticipated sporting event this year will kick off in South Africa on June 11, and Malaysians can watch it all from the comfort of their homes for absolutely free!

RTM announced that it has been appointed the licensed broadcaster for the FIFA World Cup 2010 event with matches being telecast over TV1 and TV2.

Utusan Airtime managing director Adi Satria said RTM is excited to be the official broadcaster of the 2010 FIFA World Cup as it will enable more Malaysians to watch this global event without paying a premium price for it.

RTM will be airing a total of 24 live and 11 delayed telecasts of matches throughout the one month of competition, including the opening match between South Africa and Mexico on June 11.

As for the other matches not aired by RTM, the station will make up for it by broadcasting daily highlights of the 64 matches played throughout the event.

In anticipation of the upcoming event, RTM will be running a 100-day countdown with one-minute-long capsules screened throughout the day on both stations, featuring highlights from previous World Cup tournaments.

Also scheduled for screening are FIFA’s magazine programme on South Africa and highlights of its activities as well as RTM’s own interactive programme and game show.

The station has also acquired a number of movies, drama series and children’s programmes related to football.

Besides the World Cup, other prominent sporting events which will be aired on TV1 include the Thomas Cup in May, the 2010 Sukma in June and also the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, in October. {#}
