The drive of the Ogun State Government to present the best facilities as Nigeria hosts the youth of the World has become a reality.

Its two astro turf training pitches complete with dressing rooms with lockers for players and officials are now ready.

Built by an indigenous firm under the supervision of a Dutch expert, the practising pitches, situated within the precincts of the Gateway International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, would allow the countries playing at the Ijebu-Ode Centre when the World under 17 Championship begins in October to perfect their strategies for their big matches in standard training arenas.

Alex Verderfrefts, the Dutch expert, who supervised the laying of the Asro turf described the facilities for football at the stadium as one of the best in the world.

He said care and expertise where deployed to ensured that the 3rd generation astro turf pitches which are the latest in the world stand the test of time.

Verdergrefts, who said the upgraded pitches would allow the young lads express their skills effortlessly, confirmed that Ogun now has facilities for football competitions that rank with the best in the World.

Apart from the asro turf training pitches, the well equipped Press centre complete with internet configuration and medical centre are also ready while close circuit television are mounted in strategic places and all the approaches to the Stadium to complement the water tight security cordon already put in place.

To power the stadium during matches, there are three standby generators of 800,500 and 150 KVA configuration.

Governor Gbenga Daniel, who conducted his regular visit to the venue as the final works of the turf was being rounded off, said his government was determined to ensure that Ijebu-Ode set the pace in every area of the hosting hence the ongoing dualisation of the roads leading to the Stadium, which the Ogun State Road Management Agency (OGROMA) has promised to finish in another three weeks.

He said all the countries playing in Ijebu-Ode would experience the unique hospitality of the people of Ogun State while also enjoying top of the range facilities which have been put together for the young players of the world.
